Youth Tour to Washington D.C.

The 2009 Youth Tour occurred the week of June 11-18.

Each summer Harrison REMC and other electric cooperatives sponsor the Rural Electric Cooperative's Youth Tour to Washington D.C. Students who are in their junior year of high school are chosen to attend this week-long tour of our nation's capital. Students can download a copy of the application here. This year Harrison REMC is sending two students. Irina Miralda, Floyd Central High School and Chelsey Lloyd, from North Harrison High School.

This action-packed trip gives students the opportunity to visit national monuments, museums and memorials, as well as learn more about cooperative business and state and national government.

The trip will include an afternoon in Indianapolis for a tour of the state capitol building as well as a stop at Gettysburg for a tour of the historical battlefield. Students will also visit the Arlington National Cemetery, the Smithsonian Museum, the National Cathedral in D.C. and attend a rally for all Youth Tour delegates from across the nation.

There is also a dinner cruise on the Potomac River and an all-states dance at the conclusion of the tour. Highlights from previous years are posted below.
