This is an historic time for the electric utility industry. Changes are happening quickly - changes that will affect millions of electricity customers all across America.In the past few years we’ve seen the challenges California faced as attempts were made to restructure the utility markets. Recently we’ve seen even more tumultuous events unfold as utility giants like Enron have tried to manipulate utility business. Now, more than ever, it’s important to recognize America’s electric cooperatives, who are owned by and committed to the customers they serve. Electric co-ops have been bringing reliable, high-quality service and safe, affordable energy for almost two generations to regions that investor-owned power companies wouldn’t serve. In small towns and rural and suburban America, millions of families and businesses are benefiting from the innovation, integrity and accountability that electric cooperatives offer. Now, many of America’s cooperative utilities have banded together to tell customers about the value of being part of an electric co-op. Three years ago, an alliance of over 400 cooperatives launched a national advertising and branding campaign to “bring to light” and enhance the unique value that cooperatives offer. The ads identify electric co-ops as Touchstone Energy Partners, distinguishing them from large, impersonal power companies. That alliance has now grown to include over 600 electric co-ops across the nation, all of whom personify the four core values of Touchstone Energy – Integrity, Accountability, Innovation and Commitment to Community.
