Energy Management Program Participants Needed

At Harrison REMC we are developing new ways to help you reduce electric costs. We are offering a pilot program to our members that are served by our Dogwood Substation. This program would allow Harrison REMC to install a switch that can remotely operate both your electric water heater and central air conditioner or heat pump during times when demand for electricity is at its peak. An electric peak comes most often during a stretch of very hot or cold days as demand for electricity increases. During this time of increased use, Hoosier Energy, might be forced to purchase additional power on the volatile power market. Avoiding the need to purchase additional power will in turn keep your rates low.

After the switch is installed it will be operated for only a few hours on a limited number of the hottest and coldest days of the year. Because water heaters act as storage devices, there should be no loss of hot water and the outdoor air conditioning unit will be cycled off for brief periods while the circulation fan continues to operate to keep you comfortable. For your participation to help manage costs and assist your fellow REMC members, you will receive $50 this fall. The REMC will install and maintain the switch at no cost to you. If you're ever dissatisfied, we'll remove the switch.
