Frequently Asked Questions
Does Harrison County REMC offer Energy Audits for homes? If so, please let me know the cost and who to contact.
Lisa, Harrison REMC can help with energy audits in two ways: 1st...A walkthrough audit that I would perform does not cost anything. There are limitations to this audit that you need to be aware of. The information I would provide you is based on what I might see on a walkthrough of your home and my experience of energy issues. There is no test equipment used to actually determine the exact problems your home may have. The information is general in nature and it's possible you might be persuaded to invest in an energy saving strategy that does not save you any money because it really was not a problem for you home. 2nd...There are Energy Star energy auditors who use test equipment to actually test your home and find the exact problems you are dealing with. Their report will be specific and backed with the results of the tests. You can be assured their recommendations are the appropriate place for you to invest money to save energy. However, their service is not free. The fee can be from $500 to $800 depending on the complexity and size of your home. Most regular size homes are at the lower end of that scale. This sounds like a lot but I am convinced you would actually save money because the information you receive identifies exactly where your money should be spent. Their skills will keep you from spending money on something that might not be causing you to consume a lot of energy. Feel free to contact me for more information regarding either of the two energy audits. Bob Geswein Harrison REMC 812-951-2323 bgeswein@harrisonremc.com
